Danilo to Rangers is ON as Feyenoord gazump rivals to land successor and set £6m Ibrox deal in motion

Rangers look set to win the long running battle to sign top striking target Danilo after Feyenoord moved to find the Brazilian’s replacement.

Record Sport understands that the Rotterdam club have, in the past couple of hours this morning, agreed a deal worth 7m euros to land Netherlands international Calvin Stengs from French club Nice – gazumping Antwerp who believed they had a bid tied up for the former AZ Alkmaar man. It’s understood Feyenoord moved quickly to hijack that agreement after deciding to accept a final ‘take-it-or-leave-it’ offer from Ibrox for Danilo worth around £6m.

And it's now expected the 24-year-old will be given permission to travel to Scotland to put pen to paper on a deal to become Michael Beale’s latest summer capture. The negotiations had threatened to collapse on Friday when the Everidise champions booted out a third offer worth £5.2m plus add ons – leaving Rangers assessing a list of alternative attacking options. But, as we revealed on Sunday night, in a dramatic twist chief executive James Bisgrove returned to the table yesterday with one last bumped up offer which appears to have triggered Feyenoord’s eleventh hour move for Stengs.

A well placed source in Holland said: “The situation has moved incredibly quickly and, as we speak, Feyenoord are completing the deal to buy Stengs. Antwerp are going crazy because they had the player on loan last season and they thought they had a deal in place to take him permanently. But Feyenoord have caught them napping this morning and it seems they are using the money agreed with Rangers for Danilo to finance the deal. I think you can now safely say that Danilo is in the starting blocks to take the next flight to Glasgow.”
