Danilo suffers fresh injury nightmare as Rangers striker goes under the knife again after Europa League KO

Injury-cursed Rangers striker Danilo has undergone a second surgery on his troubled knee after he was put on the shelf for European action until February.

The 25-year-old suffered a serious injury last season and has been reduced to fleeting appearances on his comeback during the early part of the season. But now the former Feyenoord striker – signed in a deal which could potentially fetch £6million – is set to be on the sidelines for at least a month after the second procedure.

But that setback has left boss Philippe Clement with no choice but to axe him from the club's Europa League squad for their eight games against the likes of Manchester United, Tottenham and Lyon. Cyriel Dessers and Hamza Igamane are the only recognised strikers in the squad selected by the Belgian. Danilo now faces a battle to regain his fitness weeks after his manager batted away questions when directly asked if the returning forward was walking with a limp.

Clement, speaking last month, said: “Dani always has that kind of walk - look from the moment when he came into the club. I’ve been watching him for a long time. I wanted to get him to Brugge when he was at Ajax and wasn’t playing there and he had that walk also at that moment so nobody has to worry about that. There’s nothing going on with him."
