Daniel Cormier had an absolutely incredible career inside the UFC octagon, but could he make his way out of retirement?

DC last fought in the company in the Heavyweight division, losing to Stipe Miocic via unanimous decision. Despite the final two fights of his career being L’s, Cormier is a former champ-champ in both the Light Heavyweight and Heavyweight divisions of the company, so he has a fantastic pedigree.

At 43 years old and having not competed since August 2020, it would certainly be a challenge for Cormier to get back into the octagon, but as he mentions later in this article, Randy Couture won a UFC title at the age of 45!

Speaking on a live Twitter Q&A (via Sportskeeda), the UFC commentator made the surprising claim seems to indicate that a return isn’t out of the question.

He said: “I said this when I retired, I said I’m only going to fight for championship belts. But it’s like I don’t deserve a heavyweight championship fight. Stipe is not the champ, he beat me the last couple of times.

“I don’t deserve a shot at the heavyweight title. If I was ever going to fight again – which I don’t want to – I would have to go all the way back to 205 pounds.

“Why? Let me tell you why. Because I didn’t lose. Remember, I vacated. I didn’t want to go back down there when Jones was gonna fight Gustafsson, so because I vacated the title now, maybe there is some potential in it: ‘Hey Dana, you think I could fight Jiri Prochazka for the title?’
