Jubilant Jim Goodwin admitted his Dundee United players had partied a bit too much as they got the point needed to secure the title despite being played off the park.

But United kept their power dry by securing a draw and then hitting back in style with their own reference from the hit TV show as United's main hitters were mocked up with the trophy.

Airdrie had the better of the chances and play but that was immaterial to the Tangerines as the draw secured an immediate return to the top flight. United boss Goodwin said: “We’re absolutely delighted as you’d expect. I hope we don’t analyse the game too much as I think we looked like a team who enjoyed a good few celebrations over the last weekend.

“It’s not an easy league. Last time it took four attempts to get out it so the players and staff deserve credit for getting out of it in one season. We looked a little bit fatigued at times but credit to Airdrie and Rhys McCabe, they’re a very good footballing side and defensively we had to dig in at times. Jack Walton had to be called more on tonight than in any of the previous five or six games. He makes big saves at big moments. It’s another clean sheet, which is pleasing, but the most important thing is we’ve been officially crowned champions.”
