Craig Sibbald hands Dundee United a boost before Premiership return as midfielder agrees contract extension

Craig Sibbald has given Dundee United a major boost by agreeing a new deal for their Premiership return.

United’s player and players’ player of the year winner will sign an extension this week that will keep him at Tannadice for the next two seasons. The 28-year-old’s contract was out at the end of this month although Sibbald has triggered an extension, after a certain number of games. Record Sport understands United have since decided to extend that agreement and ensure he remains at the club until, at least, the summer of 2026.

The midfielder was a standout for Jim Goodwin ’s side as they won the Championship and booked their place back in the top-flight. Sibbald also has plenty of top league experience in his spells with United and Livingston. That should be invaluable to Goodwin as he aims to help his team to re-establish themselves in the Premiership.

United are in talks with a number of their promotion-winning squad over new deals, including top scorer Louis Moult, Kevin Holt and Ross Graham. The Tannadice are also hopeful of agreeing extensions with youngsters Lewis O’Donnell, who was on-loan at Kelty Hearts, and Miller Thomson.

Matthew Cudjoe is also out of contract but United would be entitled to training compensation if he moves on. Goodwin is also set to make several additions to his squad with a goalkeeper and left-back amongst his top targets.
