Dalbeattie brothers retain Scottish Junior Curling title

Two Dalbeattie brothers have retained the Scottish Junior Curling title.

Orrin Carson skipped the rink featuring brother Logan and Dumfries pair Archie Hyslop and Charlie Gibb to success in Aberdeen.

It means the team – coached by dad Ryan Carson – will now go on to represent Scotland in the world finals in Finland in February. The rink went into the tournament on the back of two Ashlam wins so far this season and they opened their campaign with six straight wins before a defeat to the rink of Dumfries’ Jack Strawhorn.

However, they still topped the qualifiers and the Carson boys faced a rink featuring brother Struan in the next stage.

It was Orrin’s rink who came out on top to secure their place in the final – where they came up against Team Strawhorn once again.

It was a fantastic game with Strawhorn taking an early 1-0 lead before Team O Carson scored a two to lead.

A loose third end resulted in Team Strawhorn scoring three to lead 4-2 but Team O Carson drew level after four ends before a blank end either side of half-time.

A steal of one in the seventh end saw Team O Carson lead before singles were exchanged to tie the scores at 6-6 after the 10 scheduled ends. Team O Carson had hammer in the extra end and the took full advantage to win and secure the title they won last year.
