Queen of the South midfielder says current firm simply isn't good enough

Craig McGuffie admits the club’s current run of form simply isn’t good enough.

The midfielder, who made his first start coming back from ankle ligament surgery, said Saturday’s 3-1 humbling at the hands of Kelty Hearts was “hard to describe”.

The post-match reaction to that result has been turbulent with manager Marvin Bartley describing some of his players as unprofessional over long Xbox gaming sessions in the build-up to matches. The players also received a dressing down at full-time from their exasperated manager.

Craig said: “It needs to be said. It’s not been good enough, it’s embarrassing to be a part of and I think everyone is the same. To be in this position in League One isn’t good enough for this club and we need to sort it out.”

Queens were well on top before throwing away their lead on Saturday with poor decision making and poor defending.

Craig said: “It’s hard to describe. I thought that was the best we played, in the first half, for a while. It’s just another silly goal and we come out in the second half and we were a completely different team. It’s just not good enough.

“It’s tough. It’s hard to put your finger on. If we had the answers we wouldn’t be in this situation. Everyone is trying to figure it out. It’s not a good place to be but we need to keep going and find something. It’s really tough right now.

“We need to improve it’s just not good enough.”

Queens are now four points off the bottom of the table in League One and after a dressing down following Saturday’s loss the squad needs to bounce back against Championship leaders Dundee United in the Scottish Cup this week.

The 25-year-old said: “I don’t know if it’s a good or a bad thing to not be playing in the league this weekend.
