Cyriel Dessers reveals what he spotted in sickened Dynamo stars and senses his Rangers goal is a season shifter

Cyriel Dessers reckons his last-gasp strike could change the momentum of their Champions League tie - and the early part of their season - after admitting Dynamo Kyiv were left raging at surrendering their advantage.

The Nigeria striker pounced at the death to turn in substitute Vaclav Cerny’s brilliant cross and earn a draw in the first leg of their third round qualifying tie after Andriy Yarmolenko had fired the men from Ukraine in front in Lublin, Poland. And afterwards Dessers told Rangers TV: “There has been a lot of work and moments like this can turn this around and switch things and hopefully things start falling our way now. You saw after the whistle how they went in - they were not happy and let’s hope the late goal changes the momentum.

“This goal is a very good statement and this could change the momentum, not only in this tie but hopefully for us also for the coming weeks. We’re working so hard and maybe you don’t see the results immediately on the pitch. It was a good feeling. Everyone could see Dynamo is a very good team, technically, so we had to work hard to keep the spaces closed and I’m happy to score at the end and take a good result home. We conceded a few times last season but bounced back and that says a lot about our mentality, even against a good team.

“The goal came from a little bit of a fight in the corner. Tav got the ball to me, I laid it off to Tom Lawrence and he started running. I was on the ground in a little fight with the centre back. I got up and started running, thinking it might be the last box delivered into the box and it wasn't even a sprint with the the right timing I got there and the ball fell over the centre back and I put it into the goal.”
