Cyriel Dessers redrawing Rangers goal target as he admits 'I'm not satisfied'

Cyriel Dessers admits he’ll have to rethink his goal target for the season after revealing he’s now just four shy of his pre-season aim. The Rangers striker - a target for the Ibrox boo boys earlier in the campaign after his £4.5m move from Cremonese - made it 14 for the season with his double against Ross County and it could have been more had Staggies keeper George Wickens not been in top form.

Dessers has laid on a further seven for his team mates and says he agreed on a 25-goals and assists figure during chats with the Ibrox coaching staff after his arrival from Serie A. But with 13 games remaining in a thrilling title race as well as Scottish Cup and Europa League ties, the Nigeria international hopes to blow his initial target out the water.

He said: “Before the season we had to talk about our goals with the striker coach. I don’t like to pin myself to a number of goals but I said I want to contribute to 25 goals in the season. I am on 21 now with 14 goals and seven assists. So we are getting closer. I hope we still have a lot of games to go in the league, in Europe, in the cup.

It fair to say the fans wanted more against Ross County - and we wanted more as well. The most important thing is that we had a lot of chances and shots. Let’s hope we can have a bit more luck in the next game.”

Dessers might have hit form in front of goal at just the right time but he knows he can’t expect a starting shirt every week. Not now Fabio Silva has arrived on loan from Wolves and it starting to show his value.

But Dessers insists he’s happy to share the load. He said: “Obviously it is not always easy
