Cyriel Dessers in direct Rangers fan address as striker delivers brutally honest verdict on his 'best level'

Scorer Cyriel Dessers has confessed that he is still trying to find his "best level" at Rangers - but reckons a fresh start under Philippe Clement could unlock his potential.

But he praised the supporters for rallying behind the side in the 4-0 rout of Hibs as the Clement era kicked off at Ibrox. The Nigeria international has endured a tough start to life in Govan but netted the fourth goal of his Rangers career to round off a comfortable win over the Easter Road side to mark the Belgian's dugout debut.

The 28-year-old faced heavy criticism from supporters during Michael Beale's tenure at the club - and following the big-money move from Cremonese Dessers concedes there is plenty of work he still has to do to impress at Ibrox. Asked about his personal battle with the Hibs defenders, Dessers said: "That is the thing that I like to do. I'm still growing to my best level.

"I think this was a new step in it. I hope with the new energy in the locker room, with the new staff and the fans we can push on."

Dessers also heaped praise on the fans as they responded to a more attacking display from Rangers under Clement in the Premiership rout. He went on: "The atmosphere was unbelievable. The gaffer said at half time 'we have the fans behind us and we have to keep showing this energy.'

"I think we showed that in the second half. Early on we picked some balls off of them and this gets our crowd going. You can see what is possible here at Ibrox, and for me it was a really nice afternoon to be playing here in front of 50,000."
