Cyclist left with potentially life-changing injuries in crash which closed major road
A 20-year-old man has sustained "potentially life-changing" injuries in a crash on a busy road in Newport. Police received reports of a crash on the A48 Southern Distributor Road at around 5am on Wednesday, October 11.
The crash, which involved a push-bike and a car, resulted in the road being closed from approximately 6am to shortly before 10.30am. Police and ambulance teams attended and the 20-year-old man, a cyclist, was taken to hospital.
Gwent Police said at 10.29am on Wednesday: "Officers have now reopened SDR Road Newport following a road traffic collision earlier today. Thank you for your patience. Stay safe."
The incident also caused traffic on surrounding roads in and out of Newport. A spokesperson for the Welsh Ambulance Service has been contacted for comment.
