Cyclist fights for her life as woman admits dangerous driving after 'horrific' crash

A woman has admitted causing serious injury by dangerous driving after a cyclist was left fighting for her life in a 'horrific' crash in Cheshire.

The smash happened on Wilmslow Road in Handforth on Sunday (September 14). Cheshire Police said a blue Citroen C4 Grand Picasso was travelling along the road when it hit a cyclist.

The cyclist - a 62-year-old woman - was knocked off the bike onto the roadside. Passers-by gave her first aid before paramedics arrived on the scene.

The driver of the Citreon, now identified as being 42-year-old Seena Chacko, carried on driving along the road with the bike underneath the car. She was stopped by another drive, police added.

The victim remains in hospital in a critical condition. At Chester Magistrates' Court yesterday (September 16), Chacko, of Tabley Road, Handforth, admitted causing serious injury by dangerous driving, failing to stop after a road accident, no licence and no insurance.

She will be sentenced at Chester Crown Court on October 21. Investigating officer Sgt Russ Sime from Cheshire Police's Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: "This was a horrific incident and shocking for those who witnessed it.

"I’d like to thank those who stopped the car, and those who gave the cyclist first aid while paramedics were called. Our thoughts remain with the family of the cyclist at this truly awful time."
