Cyclist attacked and threatened with knife by robbers for his Trek bike

A cyclist was attacked then threatened with a knife by robbers for his bike. Police have released descriptions of two men they want to speak with in connection with the robbery, which happened near a canal towpath.

The victim, a man, is not believed to have been seriously injured, although police said he was 'struck' by one of the two robbers.

It happened close to the Rochdale Canal in Failsworth, Oldham, on June 19, but details have only just been released by Greater Manchester Police. The force said he was threatened at knifepoint and his Trek bike was taken.

GMP said: "At around 1.45pm on Friday 19 June, a man was cycling to the Rochdale canal via Ridgefield Street, where he noticed two males on the pathway as he went over the bridge. He was struck by one of them, before the other pulled out a knife and took his bike from him.

"The bike is a black Trek pedal bike. Officers are now hoping to speak to two people as they continue their enquiries."

The first is described as black, aged in his 20s, approximately 6ft tall of stocky build.

He had black afro-style hair, black chin stubble and was wearing a black bubble coat and black tracksuit bottoms, police said.

The second man is described as Asian, skinny, around 5ft 10ins tall and aged in his early 20s. He was wearing a bubble coat with the hood up and black tracksuit bottoms. Police also said he had a 'wispy' beard.

A force spokesperson said: "If you have any information, please contact police via 101 or gmp.police.uk, quoting log 1720 of 19/07/24. Alternatively, you can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
