49ers' trade talks involving Brandon Aiyuk with Patriots, Browns heating up

The possibility of Brandon Aiyuk getting traded has seemingly increased, and the ball might be in the wide receiver's court.

After failing to come to terms on an extension with the star wide receiver this offseason and in the opening weeks of training camp, the 49ers have multiple trades lined up involving Aiyuk, according to multiple reports. The 49ers have "negotiated the framework" of a possible trade involving Aiyuk with the New England Patriots and Cleveland Browns, NBC Sports Bay Area reported.

Even though reports indicate that a resolution might be near in the Aiyuk saga, 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan said that isn't the case.

"I’m not going any specifics with offers, contracts, trades, anything like that. But what I can tell you guys is nothing has changed," Shanahan said Tuesday. "A lot was out yesterday and stuff, but from the situation that we’re in with Brandon, nothing’s changed."

"I mean, you also want it to be [resolved] badly, but this stuff does take time," Shanahan told reporters on Tuesday. "Every day I hope it gets resolved, but I have no timetable on it, didn't surprise me coming into this. I'm going about coaching our team, getting them ready for Week 1, and hopefully, it'll get resolved sooner rather than later."

Aiyuk has received permission to negotiate an extension with the Patriots and Browns, ESPN reported.

The Pittsburgh Steelers also remain in the hunt to land Aiyuk. After talks between the Steelers and 49ers stalled on Monday, the two sides re-engaged in trade talks on Tuesday, ESPN reported.

The Washington Commanders were also reportedly involved in the sweepstakes for the 49ers wideout. However, the Commanders have pulled out of the sweepstakes, NBC Sports Bay Area added in its report.
