Cumbernauld Colts enjoy best-ever start to season as boss aims to stay on East Kilbride's coattails

Cumbernauld Colts earned their third win on the spin in the Lowland League on Saturday to make their best-ever start to a season in the fifth tier.

And now boss David Proctor has challenged his side to stay on the coattails of leaders East Kilbride – his former side – after moving up to second spot in the table.

Colts maintained their fine form after coming from behind to beat Broomhill on Saturday.

A fourth minute penalty from Paul Kennedy gave the visitors the lead, but Colts hit back from the spot nine minutes later through Craig Holmes, before Keelan Adams netted a winner eight minutes from time.

Colts are four points behind East Kilbride in joint-second spot with Tranent and Hearts B, but can go within a point of EK with a win at East Stirling tonight, having played a game more.

And Proctor said: “When I was at East Kilbride, Colts were always a team that you had to be wary of.

“Colts have always been there or thereabouts but this is as strong a start as we have made. Things are really good at the moment.

“But we have a few players fighting for starting spots so we have players who can come on and change a game at the moment. Later in the season, if the squad gets ravaged by injuries, it will be about how we deal with that.”

Colts will be tested when they host East Stirlingshire and they then travel to Civil Service Strollers on Saturday.

Proctor added: “The start we’ve had does give us a wee bit of breathing
