Crystal Palace 'looking at' bringing 19 y/o 'Rolls Royce' to Selhurst Park

Crystal Palace are interested in signing Peterborough defender Ronnie Edwards, according to The Sun journalist Tom Barclay.

Patrick Vieira will be hoping to improve his squad when the transfer window reopens for business next month and Palace appear to be shopping in the Championship once again.

Palace have a history of signing players from the second-tier, with Eberechi Eze and Michael Olise the two standout examples in recent years, while youngsters Tyrick Mitchell and Marc Guehi have also thrived under Vieira’s guidance.

And the Daily Mail believe that the Frenchman is targeting another young player from the EFL, although they face competition from Tottenham for his signature, while German trio RB Leipzig, Eintracht Frankfurt and Borussia Dortmund are also in the race.

Edwards, described as a Rolls Royce by Barry Fry, joined Posh from Barnet in the summer of 2020 and has gone on to make more than 40 appearances for the first-team.

But the teenager only established himself as a regular following Peterborough’s promotion back to the Championship last season.

As a result, the centre-back has started more than 30 games in the league, while he also caught the eye against Manchester City in the FA Cup back in March.

The report from the Mail says that Edwards is rated at £15m, which would put him sixth on Palace’s all-time record arrival list, and Barclay confirmed their interest.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “From Palace’s point of view, I know they’re looking at Ronnie Edwards at Peterborough, who’s obviously been playing in the Championship.

“I think Palace will definitely be all over that market [the Championship] if they can be.”
