Crystal Palace could 'cut ties' with £120k-a-week star at Selhurst Park

Crystal Palace could “cut ties” with Christian Benteke this summer, according to Sky Sports reporter Michael Bridge.

The 45-cap Belgium international was handed a two-year contract following his impressive form at the end of last season.

But Benteke’s game-time has been limited since Patrick Vieira arrived, which could lead to the former Liverpool frontman leaving Selhurst Park in the upcoming window.

The striker, who earns £120,000 per-week, found himself in a similar position this time 12 months ago, although he was eventually rewarded with a new deal after scoring in each of his final four games last season.

But since signing on the dotted line, Benteke has struggled for regular minutes, and has started just 11 Premier League games this term, with the last of those coming on New Year’s Day.

Benteke’s agent recently revealed that the Belgian has no intention of leaving the club when the window reopens and he is expecting him to see out the final year of his contract, although The Sun believe the Eagles are still hoping to offload him.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “Benteke was kind of third choice towards the end of the season.

“He was rewarded with a new deal after playing so well at the end of last season, but I think this will probably be the time they will try and cut ties and I think Palace will probably try and get another striker in this summer.”

Despite Arsenal making him one final offer ahead of his deal expiring next month, Palace remain keen on Eddie Nketiah.

The Londoners failed in their bid to sign the 22-year-old last summer and in January and are hoping to make one last-ditch attempt in the coming months.
