Chelsea: Potential 'twist' as £97.5m star could now leave Stamford Bridge

Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku could seal a sensational switch back to Inter Milan just 10 months after he moved in the opposite direction, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The 29-year-old became the Blues’ record signing when they paid £97.5 million for his services last August following seven years away from the club he originally joined as a teenager.

Lukaku, who initially moved to Stamford Bridge as a 17-year-old from Belgian side Anderlecht in 2011, signed a five-year deal worth £325,000-per-week upon completing his comeback to Chelsea.

However, things have not gone to plan for the Belgium international since, who has struggled to adapt to the demands of manager Thomas Tuchel.

And transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Inter are ‘due to hold talks’ with Lukaku’s lawyer over a possible return to San Siro, although any deal is said to be complicated.

The Italian giants are enduring financial difficulties at this moment in time, and a loan move is said to be ‘the only realistic possibility’ of the Nerazzurri recapturing the prolific marksman.

Jones has now provided an update on Lukaku’s situation, revealing that a return to Inter ‘is on’ if the financial aspect can be agreed upon, but a ‘potential twist’ could occur due to Bayern Munich’s sudden interest.

He told GiveMeSport: “I’ve spoken to a good source on this, and Romelu Lukaku and a return to Inter Milan is on – now the finances of the deal just need to fall into place.

“Also, though, a potential twist could yet come from Bayern Munich. I’m told they suddenly have his situation on their radar in light of the fact (Robert) Lewandowski is not going to return for next season.”
