Cristiano Ronaldo’s message to former Manchester United teammates after landmark game

Cristiano Ronaldo has thanked his former teammates from Manchester United and beyond for their support in helping him to reach another astonishing milestone.

The 38-year-old chalked up his 1,200th career appearance in Al-Nassr’s 4-1 win over Al-Riyadh on Friday, in which he scored his 19th goal of the season. He leads the Saudi Pro League scorers chart with 16 goals in 15 matches, and is now just 16 off tallying 750 club goals.

As many as 145 of his strikes came during his two spells at United, whom he left a second time in November 2022 after a public fallout with Erik ten Hag. Ronaldo had his contract mutually terminated ahead of the World Cup before signing with Al-Nassr in January.

However, he has still made sure to thank his former Old Trafford teammates, including those from his first stint, after reaching another significant moment in his career. Taking to Instagram after Al-Nassr’s latest win, he sent a message to his past and present colleagues.

He wrote: “Three more points! Thankful to all my teammates who helped me reach my 1200th match. What a ride, but we’re not done yet!”

Ronaldo is expected to be taken to Euro 2024 in what is likely to be his final major international tournament with Portugal. It is a competition he won with his country in 2016 after being forced off with an injury early on in the final.

He will hope he gets a swansong in Germany, by which time he will be 39. Ronaldo previously said he wishes to carry on playing into his 40s, although it is presumed that he will not make the cut for the 2026 World Cup in the USA.
