Crash at Culverhouse cross blocks A4232 M4 link road for five hours

A woman has been taken to hospital after a crash which blocked part of a busy road in Cardiff for the most part of Tuesday morning. Police were alerted to the incident at Culverhouse Cross at around 8.30am on Tuesday, July 5.

The crash involved two vehicles and emergency services attended the scene for around five hours. The entry slip to the A4232 southbound was partially blocked and one lane was closed, affecting traffic towards Leckwith, with the road not reopening fully until around 1.30pm.

The accident caused around half an hours of delays at its busiest, with congestion reaching back as far as the M4 with queues at the J33 exit, along the A48, and back to Wenvoe northbound.

Police have confirmed that a woman has been taken to hospital following the crash. A spokesman for South Wales Police said: "Emergency services attended a two vehicle road traffic collision at the Culverhouse Cross roundabout, Cardiff. The collision happened at around 8.30am on the south-bound on-slip.

"The road was closed for around five hours and resulted in traffic tailbacks on the A4232. The 54 year-old female driver of one of the cars has been taken to hospital where she is being treated for her injuries. Motorists are thanked for the patience during course of this incident. The road has since re-opened."
