Three drivers fined for parking illegally on crossings on the same road during heatwave

Three drivers were fined by police yesterday after they were all caught parking on crossings on the same road in North Manchester.

Greater Manchester Police said that the three drivers were all issued with a Traffic Offence Report after being found parked on crossings on Lightbowne Road in Moston.

Officers said that each of the drivers received three points on their licence and a fine as a consequence of parking within the controlled area of a crossing, which is against the law.

In a statement, a spokesperson for GMP Traffic said: “Parking within the controlled area of a crossing is an offence. The drivers of these vehicles on Lightbowne Rd #Moston were all issued a Traffic Offence Reports yesterday.

“Safer, legal parking was available a short walk away. These drivers will now receive 3 points and a fine.”

Yesterday, Greater Manchester was braced with the hottest day on record after temperatures climbed to 35C. The heatwave, which is set to continue today, saw Metrolink’s Bury line suspended after ‘severe weather conditions’ caused damage to overhead power lines. The line will remain closed today.

The heat also saw a road in Stockport melt due to the extreme weather. Broadstone Road was turned into sticky, black goo as the heat liquified the asphalt, with the wet tarmac getting stuck in vehicle treads.
