Craig McPherson hit with SIX game SFA ban as Rangers Women's coach punished for Fran Alonso headbutt

Craig McPherson has been slapped with a six-game ban from the SFA for headbutting Fran Alonso.

The Rangers coach has paid a hefty price for his moment of madness after admitting the charge from last month's SWPL derby, which saw Rangers denied all three points against their rivals following a 99th minute Celtic equaliser from Caitlin Hayes that cancelled out Brogan Hay's first half opener. The last gasp leveller sparked wild scenes of celebration on the Celtic bench, with Alonso enjoying the moment on the touchline.

That is what apparently angered McPherson, who made a beeline for the Spaniard at full-time as he shook hands with players on the park. The Ibrox coach appeared to aim a headbutt into the back of the 47-year-old's head, which sparked pushing and shoving between rival players and coaching staff. McPherson was up in front of the SFA beaks today, who handed down a six-game suspension as punishment which will start imediately and cover all competitions..

Police Scotland are also investigating the incident. As exclusively revealed by Record Sport, however, Alonso said he doesn't want to see charges pressed, but did demand an apology from McPherson. When asked about the incident days later, Rangers boss Michael Beale admitted he hadn't seen it live and at that point, hadn't spoken to McPherson,a lthough insisted it was "out of character."

He said: "All I would say on Craig is that's it's out of character for him. Everyone that knows him in Scotland as a man, knows it's out of character. I haven't seen it since but I've obviously been told about it. I haven't personally spoken to him. That's away with the SFA, they've cited him and those discussions are going on and it would be unfair for me to comment more on
