Craig Gordon set to be cut from Euro 2024 Scotland squad as Steve Clarke wields the axe

Craig Gordon looks set to face the heartbreak of missing out on Scotland’s Euro 2024 squad.

National boss Steve Clarke is set to cut his squad by two before Friday night's pre-tournament deadline. Clarke had named four keepers for the friendly in Gibraltar and tomorrow evening’s friendly with Finland, but is only going to take three. The Scottish boss is ready to name Angus Gunn, Zander Clark and Liam Kelly as his three goalkeepers. Gordon had made a late push but his lack of regular first-team action at Hearts looks set to have cost him.

The 41-year-old had dreamed of making the Euros after battling back from a horror leg break but that now looks all but over. Hearts No. 1 Clark will be on the plane but the fact Gordon has only played in mainly cup games looks to have worked against him. Clarke will show loyalty to Gunn, Clark and Kelly who have all won Scotland caps recently.

Norwich keeper Gunn is likely to start in Germany, while Kelly, who is in talks over a move to Rangers, is likely to go as the other keeper. The Scotland boss will also have to disappoint one outfield player after Red Bull New York striker Lewis Morgan was called into the squad.
