Craig Gordon in cheeky Steven Naismith dig as Hearts elder statesman can't resist point scoring age answer

Steven Naismith might be younger than Craig Gordon and the keeper is probably the only member of the squad who can get away with saying the gaffer doesn't look it.

The veteran keeper penned a one-year contract extension to remain with his boyhood club until the summer of 2025, taking him past his 42nd birthday in maroon. Next on the agenda is dislodging Zander Clark from No 1 jersey and reclaiming the gloves. Then, he can start thinking about getting back in the Scotland squad. Euro 2024 is the carrot for Gordon, although one more cap will see him become his country's oldest ever player.

Naismith may lack managerial experience, but it's not showing. After a stick start in Gorgie, he has the Jambos cruising to third place in the Premiership in the midst of a ten-game unbeaten run. That's made it hard for Gordon to justify getting back into the starting XI. But he's nothing but praise for his former teammate's tenure so far...if not his appearance.

"It's going to happen quite a lot now (being older than the manager). No matter what, the managers are getting younger and I'm certainly not.

"He's been brilliant since he's come in. He's done really well with this squad.

"He's only a few years younger. But I'm not sure he looks it so I'll take that...I;m not sure that's done my chances of getting a game any good!
