Craig Gordon completes Hearts full circle with B team run out as Liam Fox hails 'best' keeper Scotland has produced

Craig Gordon edged closer to his Hearts comeback with 90 minutes for the B team against Rangers.

And for boss Liam Fox, it was the completion of a circle after PLAYING in the same Jambos youth team as the veteran stopper. Gordon has been back in training with Steven Naismith's squad after suffering a horror leg break last Christmas Eve in a 2-2 draw at Dundee United. The club are taking no risks with his return to action, but that could be sooner rather than later after a full-length run out against the Gers.

Callum Sandilands and Makenzie Kirk were on target before skipper McAuley Tait added a third. There was to be no clean sheet for Gordon however, thanks to Bailey Rice's late penalty. But the mental boost of a first 90 minutes in the bank will be valuable. The timing could be good for Steve Clarke too, with Angus Gunn set for a spell on the sidelines ahead of next months' final two qualifiers against Georgia and Norway.

And Fox, who claimed Gordon is the "best" Scottish keeper the nation has produced, admitted there's no-one better to have in the dressing room with his young stars, even for a short while.

He told the club's website: “Absolutely delighted for Craigy. Believe it or not, I played in the same youth team as Craig Gordon, so he’s making me feel old with the fact he’s still playing.

“Craig Gordon is arguably the best Scottish keeper we have ever produced, so it’s a great experience for our young boys to have him alongside them. He didn’t have that much to do today. I’m sure he might have liked a bit more to do.
