Crackdown starts as Benidorm police stop people drinking on beach

A tourist was shocked after spotting police clamping down on people drinking on the beach in Benidorm. Darren, 46, also known as Dazza, and his friend, Graham, 36, from Middlesbrough, often share their holiday antics online, having gone viral several times.

Their latest post is a warning to anyone heading to the popular Spanish holiday spot this summer. The video, which has racked up over 657,000 views so far, was filmed walking along the town’s main strip.

Darren spots a couple of police officers speaking to two men in deck chairs on the beach. He then pans to a small foldaway table between the pair, which features a bottle of rosé and two glasses.

Darren said: “There’s a couple there getting done for drinking on the beach.” He continues videoing as the police approach other tourists.

“The two men were doing nothing wrong, just chilling out with a bottle of wine,” Dazza said. “It’s the first time I’ve ever seen the police move people off the beach for drinking.

“It’s getting really strict over there, the police don’t mess about and they’re out searching people every night. Really clamping down on a lot of stuff.

“Rules are rules but these two were doing nothing wrong, just having a quiet drink.”

Darren believes the fine for drinking on the beach is €750 (approximately £620). The clip (@benidorm_grumet) was captioned: “Police removing people for drinking on Levante beach, think it holds a 750 euro fine, don’t think they got a fine but were removed.”

The TikTok has gathered more than 2,300 likes and hundreds of comments from users. Mark said: “It’s Benidorm, I thought everyone drank everywhere.”

Mel added: “Been to Beni loads, never knew that.” Jacqueline commented: “I love Benidorm.” Jake posted: “There’s no signs, screw them.”
