Coventry City 2-2 Swansea City: Late Liam Cullen freekick rescues dramatic point for Swans

Liam Cullen came off the bench to net a superb freekick and rescue a point for Swansea City in their final game of 2023 at Coventry City.

Liam Walsh handed the Swans the lead after pouncing on a defensive error, but their advantage would last just three minutes as Haji Wright restored parity with a clinical finish.

Wright then turned provider, getting on the end of a deep cross to tee up substitute Ellis Simms to blast home, while Callum O'Hare's rasping effort was palmed onto the crossbar just a few minutes later.

It proved a pivotal save as Cullen then curled home a brilliant freekick deep into stoppage time to hand his side a dramatic point.

After their mauling at the hands of Southampton, there were some definite positives to take from this contest. For one, a promising showing from young academy graduate Sam Parker, who was handed his first senior start.

But overall, this was still largely a lukewarm response to the horror show on Boxing Day. It certainly won't have emboldened Sheehan to kick down Andy Coleman's door and demand he's handed this gig full-time anyway. Then again, one still wouldn't bet against the Irishman being in the dugout again in the new year.

Clearly it's been a turbulent end to 2023, and Swansea desperately need to usher in the new year with a hefty dose of stability that quite frankly isn't there at the moment, despite Sheehan's best attempts.
