'Could be over' - Steven Gerrard provides worrying Lucas Digne injury update

Lucas Digne's season could well be over after the Frenchman sustained a nasty collarbone injury during Aston Villa's heavy 4-0 defeat to Tottenham. The Frenchman was replaced for the second week running - this time in the second half as Ashley Young came on with the game out of sight.

A hat-trick from Son Heung-Min and a Dejan Kulusevski goal did all the damage as Spurs put a shaky first-half behind them with Villa unlucky to go in at the break 0-1 down. Villa chalked up 11 shots inside the first 45 minutes with Danny Ings, Ollie Watkins and Jacob Ramsey missing big chances, the latter down to a stunning Hugo Lloris save.

On Digne's injury, Gerrard said: "I'm concerned and worried about it because he's in a sling right now. We've got a collarbone issue rather than a shoulder issue. If it's what we fear, it could be season over."

Asked if it summed up his day, the head coach added: "It does in a way because I think the scoreline is really harsh. It stings right now and, to lose a really important player, a player who we missed last week when he went off. So, yeah, we'll analyse it in the next 24 hours in terms of scans and we'll have a medical report on it but the doctors have said they are worried and concerned and that's tells you the story."

Villa are now on a run of four-straight defeats with Leicester next up in a fortnight's time. Gerrard continued: "It's tough - the scoreline is harsh on us, but it's the reality and we have to accept that. I have to accept it - I'm responsible. The story of the game certainly wasn't a 4-0 game.
