Steven Gerrard has transfer agreement with Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens

Aston Villa head coach Steven Gerrard insists that he will not "compromise" to find alternative transfer targets this summer.

The club are set for what promises to be another busy transfer window this summer with plenty of outgoings expected, as well as several incomings. Villa boss Gerrard wants to add Premier League experience to his squad, with a holding midfielder and more defensive reinforcements at the top of his wish list.

The likes of Leeds United's Kalvin Phillips and Brighton's Yves Bissouma are both top targets, but Villa will face strong competition to sign either player. Back in January, Villa tried and failed to sign Mali international Bissouma, but their bid was turned down with Brighton holding out for an offer north of £40million.

Villa signed Philippe Coutinho (loan), Lucas Digne, Calum Chambers and Robin Olsen in January, but they were made to wait on negotiating a deal with Bissouma.

Gerrard said back in January: "The support I’ve had during the first window and since I walked in the door has been brilliant and I really appreciate that. We will keep analysing the squad and if we feel we need support in that area we’ll look for the right target.

"We won’t compromise and try to find Plan B, C, D or E. We’ll keep pushing and try to get the right person." Villa are also said to be interested in Borussia Monchengladbach centre-back
