"My information is...": Dutch journo drops huge Ten Hag update, it's bad news for MUFC - opinion

Manchester United are on the hunt for their next manager, with Erik ten Hag the current frontrunner to take over at Old Trafford, although new information has emerged from Amsterdam on the potential appointment of the 52-year-old.

Dutch journalist Freek Jansen revealed that he has spoken to Ten Hag, and it seems that there are still many obstacles for United to overcome in order to secure the signature of the Ajax coach.

Jansen spoke on the latest episode of De Pak Schaal Podcast (quote via Ajax news account @TheEuropeanLad on Twitter) and said: “This week I spoke to several people including Erik ten Hag. My information is that the only way he will join Manchester United is when everything fits right. His management is working on it, he has a huge list of demands (sporting wise).”

This new update on Ten Hag will surely be bad news for United as they attempt to secure their new manager, with reports suggesting that the club want the deal done by the end of April.

Currently, the exact roles on the board at Old Trafford are unclear to a degree, with Richard Arnold taking over the responsibilities held by Ed Woodward, who stepped down from his executive director role in February. With interim manager Ralf Rangnick set to join the board in a consultancy role at the end of the season, football director John Murtough is expected to take a more active role in transfers.

This uncertainty on the board’s direction moving forward could go one of two ways for Ten Hag, possibly putting him off the project due to the lack of clarity on the involvement in transfers. Alternatively, the club could offer the Dutchman a chance to become much more involved in that aspect, something on which he is reportedly very keen.
