Coronation Street horror as Rovers Return could close 'for good' as Jenny Connor fights to save pub

There could be a pub-related horror in Coronation Street next week as Jenny Connor reveals her fight to save the Rovers Return from crippling costs could be in vain.

The pub, located at the corner of Coronation Street and Rosamund Street and formerly known as The Rovers Return Inn, was first opened in 1902 as part of a chain of Weatherfield pubs owned by brewery Newton & Ridley. The brewery sold the Rovers in 1995 and since then it has been a free house, although Newton & Ridley continue to supply the pub's ale.

And the Rovers has seen a number of owners and bar staff over the years. While Jenny has now owned the pub outright since her split from her late husband Johnny in 2021, they had previously run it together after purchasing the pub from Peter Barlow and Toyah Battersby in 2018.

Before that, Rovers regulars, and viewers of the ITV soap, have seen the likes of Jack and Annie Walker, Bet and Alec Gilroy, Jack and Vera Duckworth, Natalie Barnes, Fred Elliott, Duggie Ferguson, Steve and Liz McDonald and Stella Price all have a go at running the traditional boozer.

But it's fair to say that it is probably Betty Williams who is the most synonymous with the Rovers having worked there as a barmaid and caterer for 43 years, serving up the pub's popular hotpot dish, before her sad death in 2012.

But the current chain of owners could soon be coming to an end as spoilers reveal that landlady Jenny will be heard at the start of next week confiding in love interest Owen Longford that the Rovers is struggling financially.
