Coronation Street fans spot secret reference to another show as Aadi and Courtney affair exposed

There were explosive scenes in Coronation Street as Aadi Alahan's affair with Courtney Vance was exposed during Wednesday night's episode of the ITV soap (September 13). Aadi was caught in the act when his dad Dev found him kissing Courtney at the bistro during a lunch to celebrate a deal with supermarket Freshco.

Aadi's boss - and Courtney's husband - Darren had booked the meal and suggested Amy Barlow should join Aadi, wrongly assuming that they were an item. And when Dev referred to Aadi and Amy as a couple, Aadi was quick to correct him and made out he was already seeing someone called Monica.

Darren confided in Dev that he and Courtney were having marriage problems and he suspected she was having an affair. Amy listened in, and with the lunch in full swing, warned Aadi that Darren knew Courtney was playing away.

When Dev revealed that Aadi had got a new girlfriend, Darren, Courtney and Amy were all ears as he described her as beautiful, funny and intelligent. With Dev and Darren distracted, Aadi followed Courtney out where they shared a kiss - and Dev was gobsmacked to find his son in a passionate clinch with the boss’ wife.

It didn't take long before the affair was completely out in the open, with Aadi announcing to Darren that he was the mystery love interest. Courtney later turned up in tears on Dev's doorstep with her suitcase - but Dev ordered her to leave.

However, fans on X, formerly known as Twitter, spotted a secret reference Aadi made when he spoke about the fictional Monica. They speculated that he was inspired by the character of Monica in the popular sitcom Friends, a role played by actress Courtney Cox.
