'Conversations going on' - Dan Ashworth issues Manchester United transfer update

Old Trafford sporting director Dan Ashworth said Manchester United are involved in ongoing talks over potential deadline day signings.

United will confirm the arrival of Manuel Ugarte today with his switch from PSG all but done. Scott McTominay will join Italian side Napoli while the Reds could yet do further business. Jadon Sancho has been linked with a move to Juventus and Chelsea while the latter have frozen out Raheem Sterling who has been touted as an option for United.

United held exploratory discussions with Chelsea about Sterling on Tuesday regarding a potential swap involving Sancho but well-placed sources say such a deal is now unlikely to materialise. Arsenal have now emerged as the likeliest destination for the Chelsea outcast.

And Erik ten Hag, speaking to the media on Friday lunchtime ahead of Sunday's mammoth Premier League clash with Liverpool, said he expects Sancho to remain at Old Trafford as things stand. But Ashworth has hinted at the possibility of further business.

Speaking at the Europa League draw in France, Ashworth said: "I had a few missed calls (during the draw) I kept getting nudged from Sir Dave Brailsford. My phone was vibrating. Let’s see what happens, the window is still open and we have some conversations going on.”

In the Europa League draw, United were paired with Jose Mourinho's Fenerbahce and Scottish giants Rangers. FC Porto, FC Twente, PAOK, Viktoria Plzen Bodo/Glimt and Steaua Bucharest complete the opponents.
