Connor Goldson in Rangers fitness sweat for Celtic as Philippe Clement 'fed up' after injury bug bites again

Rangers are sweating on the fitness of Connor Goldson for the clash with Ross County - and the Old Firm showdown on Saturday - as Philippe Clement’s injury list hit double figures on Christmas Eve.

The victory over Motherwell at Fir Park was blighted by Goldson limping off near the end with what appeared to be a groin problem. And with Nicolas Raskin, John Lundstram, Jose Cifuentes, Ben Davies, Borna Barisic, Danilo, Kemar Roofe, Tom Lawrence and Ryan Jack all queuing up for their turn on the treatment table, the last thing Clement needs is Goldson being unavailable. The Belgian said: “Connor felt something at the end of the game but we will see.

“Everyone is asking these questions. I’m a little bit fed up but I need to speak about it. I don’t know, we’ll see the day after and then it’s another game again. We take it day by day what the situation is and what the fitness of the players is. It’s difficult to plan in advance so I’m living from day to day.

“But for me, the most pleasing thing is that despite having nine injured players, the structure stays, with two players in midfield (Dujon Sterling and Kieran Dowell) who are not used to playing there. You don’t see the difference. The team is really focused and concentrated to do the job together.

Everybody knows what we are doing, we keep clean sheets and we keep winning games by being dominant.”

Clement was delighted with the 2-0 win, achieved in horrific conditions, over Motherwell that reduced Celtic’s lead at the top to two points with Rangers having a game in hand.
