Connor Barron breaks Aberdeen injury return silence as starlet takes defiant stance on Dundee United horror show

Connor Barron reckons Aberdeen "will bounce back" after the Scotland youth starlet featured for the first time this season as the Dons were thrashed 4-0 by Dundee United on Saturday.

The Red Army would have hoped the 20-year-old could help spearhead a victory at Tannadice but instead his long-awaited return turned into a nightmare with Jim Goodwin's men capitulating in front of a 4,000-strong travelling support. Barron was brought into the action at half-time with his side already 2-0 down courtesy of goals from Aziz Behich and Tony Watt and it was to get worse as Jamie McGrath dispatched a penalty and Ross McCrorie headed into his own net during the second half.

And Barron took to Twitter on Monday evening to break silence around the defeat as he admitted just being out on the pitch again was a great feeling. He tweeted: "Great feeling being back out on the pitch again after my injury. Really disappointing result felt by all but we’ll bounce back."

Barron suffered serious medial ligament damage in a pre-season friendly against Buckie Thistle with Ylber Ramadani and McCrorie tasked with stepping into his shoes in the Dons midfield. So despite the Tayside blow his presence will be a welcome boost in weeks to come as they head towards a busy pre-World Cup schedule.

Aberdeen will look to bounce back when they welcome Hearts to Pittodrie on Saturday with just a solitary Scottish Premiership point separating the pair. And their home form has been a total contrast to life on the road with
