Composed Adin Philips nets Kinnoull's winning spot-kick to edge out Lowland League side Gala Fairydean Rovers

Youngster Adin Philips stroked home the winning penalty as Kinnoull sent Lowland League Gala Fairydean Rovers out of the East of Scotland Qualifying Cup.

The 17-year-old held his nerve from 12 yards to seal the Perth side a 5-4 shootout success at Tulloch Park on Saturday afternoon.

Kinnoull manager Alan Cameron had full confidence the ball was always heading for the back of the net when Philips stepped up.

“Adin showed great composure and a calmness beyond his years but none of us expected any other outcome,” Cameron beamed.

The 90 minutes had ended 1-1 - Mark Smith the Kinnoull scorer - before extra-time was unable to decide a winner.

But home players then got it spot on to advance beyond the second round stage.

“I was absolutely delighted with the team performance,” Cameron added.

“The lads executed the game plan to a tee and I felt we actually deserved to win the tie without the need for a shootout.

“We are just happy to progress in the cup but obviously matching and imposing ourselves on Gala Fairydean is huge credit to the team and also the hard work that is being done on the training ground.”
