Celtic hint Shakhtar Donetsk clash WILL go ahead as UEFA continue Champions League postponement talks

Celtic have offered a clue to their fans that their Champions League clash with Shakhtar Donesk is set to go ahead on Wednesday.

Domestic football in Scotland has been postponed this weekend as a mark of respect following the Queen's passing, with the Livingston's trip to Celtic Park to face the Scottish champions put on hold. Next up for Ange Postecoglou 's side is their group stage clash with Ukrainian side Shakhtar, who are currently playing their home games at the Stadion Wojska Polskiego in Warsaw following Russia's invasion of their country.

With no date yet confirmed for Queen Elizabeth II's funeral and the UK in a period of official mourning, questions have been raised over whether the fixture would go ahead with city rivals Rangers admitting there is "uncertainty" over their clash with Napoli on Tuesday. The Ibrox side released a statement confirming plans to play the match have not changed but they are holding discussions with UEFA amid "policing and resource pressures".

UEFA remain in discussions over next week’s European games involving UK clubs, with Hearts also set to compete in the Europa Conference League on Thursday. However, Celtic have hinted their clash in Poland could go ahead as they continue to sell tickets for the game.

Celtic’s official tickets’ page confirmed on Friday that "a limited number of tickets for the away match v Shakhtar Donetsk" had been placed on sale to season ticket holders. The decision to postpone games has split opinion following the sad passing of the Queen.
