Clydebank draw was 'two points dropped' says Gartcairn boss

Mick Dunlop feels it was two points dropped as table-toppers Clydebank fought back to hold his Gartcairn side 2-2 at MTC Park on Saturday.

The hosts were 2-0 up inside nine minutes through Thomas Reilly and Darren Smith, but a deflected second-half effort and a converted penalty saw a point head back to Clydebank.

Dunlop, whose side are now five games unbeaten in the West of Scotland Premier Division, said: “We were 2-0 up with half an hour to go, and they had put us under pressure and had a couple of chances that they had missed, but I felt at that point we were starting to look pretty comfortable.

“But their guy hits a shot from outside the box, it’s going by the post, but hits their guy on the leg and wrong-foots our goalkeeper.

“We were a bit unfortunate with that, because goals change games and that got them back into it.

“But two minutes later it was 2-2 and they had all the momentum, so I think overall when you look at the whole game a draw was fair.

“They’re a good team, top of the table, and hit showed us how far we’ve come in a short period of time.

“Overall, I think it’s important that, in such a tough league, you’re playing good teams every single week, and when you’re not able to win, it’s important that you don’t lose and you get a point to keep the momentum going.”

Dunlop is focusing on the progress his side have made since the opening weeks of the season and is pleased to see his charges push a Bankies outfit who have only lost twice this season.

He added: “In the first five games we had one point out of 15, so it was a really poor start, and we weren’t scoring enough goals.

“In the last four league games we’ve scored four at Irvine Meadow, four against Rob Roy, four against Arthurlie, and two on
