Clyde 1, Motherwell 3: Stuparevic rocket puts Well in pole position

A wonder-strike by Filip Stuperavic kept Motherwell in pole position to win Premier Sports Cup Group G.

Stuparevic sent a shot arrowing into the top left corner of the net to seal a good win, after Lennon Miller had put his side ahead from the spot.

It had been a topsy-turvy cup clash up until then, with Clyde captain Lee Hamilton having cancelled out Moses Ebiye's early opener just minutes before Miller's penalty.

It was no more than Motherwell deserved over the piece, but they were made to work hard for it by League Two Clyde.

Ebiye had Motherwell off the mark in 12 minutes but Hamilton levelled with a deflected effort just after the hour-mark.

Motherwell regained their lead in 65 minutes through Miller's spot-kick, and took the three points back across the Clyde with Stuperavic's cracker.

An electric start to the game saw both sides clearing shots off the line in the opening seven minutes, and Ebiye gave Motherwell the lead in 12 minutes.

The game hit a bit of a lull after that, but there were chances.

Ewan Wilson had a fierce shot well blocked by Clyde keeper Brian Kinnear, and Stephen O'Donnell beat Kinnear, only to have his shot booted over by Bully Wee captain Lee Hamilton.

Ross Lyon curled an effort round the top right corner as Clyde tried to draw level ahead of the interval.

Motherwell looked much more likely to score at the start of the second half, but were then hit with a sucker-punch by the hosts as Hamilton levelled.

However, that was short-lived when Miller was decked in the box by Kinnear, and the teenager stepped up to smash the penalty into the net.
