Clubs circle for Burnley midfielder as Vincent Kompany faces transfer decision on prospect

Burnley's Adam Phillips is attracting transfer interest from a host of Championship and League One clubs.

The midfielder is part of the senior set-up with the Clarets as new boss Vincent Kompany runs the rule over the Academy prospects but Phillips missed the friendly game at Shrewsbury on Friday with a minor injury. He will hope to stake a claim for first team involvement this summer but Burnley have strengthened in midfield with the arrivals of Samuel Bastien and Josh Cullen.

And while the Turf staff have been impressed with what Phillips has to offer, it remains to be seen whether they will grant him game-time. That has put other clubs on alert for the 24-year-old.

Sides in the Championship and League One are monitoring the situation with permanent or loan moves on offer for a player in the final year of his contract. Phillips has ambitions of breaking into the Burnley set-up under Kompany and is happy at the club and in his native north west, but he will move for regular football.

He has yet to make a senior appearance for the Clarets since arriving in 2019. He has had four loan spells in that time, three with Morecambe and one with Accrington with the latter two coming in League One. He impressed in the third tier, particularly for the Shrimps last term where he scored six goals in 27 league starts.

Phillips came through the ranks at Liverpool, having spent time in the Academy at Blackburn Rovers prior to moving to Anfield. Given the opportunity to train with the first team by Brendan Rodgers, Phillips featured on a pre season tour of America in 2014 aged just 16 and was part of the Reds squad that travelled to Bordeaux for a Europa League game in 2015, although he didn't make the matchday squad.
