Clubber, 20, caught drink driving after night out with friends says she had 'no choice'

A Gen Z reveller was caught drink driving at 2.30am after a night out with friends, complaining she had no other way to get home from her five-mile journey.

Macy Banks, 20, was pulled over by police last month after they spotted her getting into her Mini Cooper with a friend in the centre of Sandbach, Cheshire.

Despite insisting at the roadside that she'd only had one drink, Banks blew more than double the legal alcohol limit. Further tests revealed she had 75 micrograms of alcohol per 100 ml of breath, exceeding the legal limit of 35mg.

At Crewe Magistrates' Court, Banks, from Middlewich, pleaded guilty to drink driving but argued she had no other way to get home due to the late hour. She was fined £369, ordered to pay £233 in costs and received a 20-month driving ban.

The court heard the last bus from Sandbach to Middlewich departs at 11pm, though it wasn't mentioned whether she attempted to hail a taxi, which would have cost around £13. Prosecutor Scott Woodward said: "On November 16, at approximately 2.30am officers observed two females approaching a blue Mini Cooper parked on High Street, Sandbach.

"The vehicle drove along High Street and then along onto Crewe Road. When the officers followed it they requested the vehicle to stop.

"Officers approached the driver’s side door. The defendant admitted to the officers she had been out with friends but had only consumed one alcoholic drink.

"The officers requested a roadside breath test which the defendant failed. It gave a reading 71 of the roadside. The defendant was subsequently cautioned and arrested and conveyed to custody where the evidential
