Cliftonville legend George McMullan hailed by ex-teammate after Hall of Fame recognition

Ryan Catney has hailed former teammate George McMullan as a "friend and gentleman" who you would happily "go to the trenches" with.

McMullan was inducted into Cliftonville 's Hall of Fame on Saturday night at the club's annual awards night.

The versatile Solitude legend - who featured in a number of positions during his time at Solitude - scored 103 goals in 545 appearances between 2001-2016 and helped the Reds lift multiple trophies including back-to-back Premiership titles in 2013 and '14.

Other honours included four League Cups, four County Antrim Shields and a Charity Shield.

McMullan also played 15 times in Europe and was part of the first ever Cliftonville side to win on the continent when Cliftonville beat FC Dinaburg of Latvia in the Intertoto Cup in 2007.

Catney - who formed part of that hugely successful side that won successive Gibson Cups, said on Instagram: "Could play in any position on the pitch and be the best player, he was that good.

"Look no further when you're looking someone to go to the trenches with, but most of all, more important that football he is a friend and gentleman.

"Fully deserved."
