Simon Jordan hails Newcastle United after being 'proven wrong'

Talksport pundit Simon Jordan has admitted to having been 'proven wrong' by Newcastle United after the Magpies managed to turn around their season to escape the clutches of relegation. Back in November 2021, Newcastle sat bottom of the Premier League, with no side ever managing to avoid relegation having not won any of their opening 14 games this season.

While manager Eddie Howe arrived in November, the Magpies had to wait till early December for their first win of the season, when they defeated Burnley 1-0 at St James' Park thanks to a composed Callum Wilson strike.

From there, Newcastle continued to grow and grow. January saw them box smart in the transfer window as they signed Bruno Guimaraes, Kieran Trippier, Dan Burn, Chris Wood and Matt Targett. All five played a significant part in helping the Magpies turn around their season when many had written them off.

A magical 2022 ensued following the turn of the year, with Newcastle going on an impressive run of form that saw them win 12 games from 19 to finish their Premier League campaign in 11th.

The hype surrounding St James' Park is currently at an all-time recent high, with an exciting summer transfer window in the offing on Tyneside. And while Jordan says he always believed Newcastle would stay up, the former Crystal Palace owner admitted to being proved wrong about how rapidly the Magpies have built up momentum following their dismal early season form.
