Christian Eriksen: When West Ham pitch invader took a better free-kick than him

Christian Eriksen’s comeback has been one of the great feel-good sporting stories.

Last summer at Euro 2020, the Danish playmaker suffered a cardiac arrest in a group match against Finland.

Eriksen survived the horrific ordeal, but there were understandably concerns as to whether he would play professionally again, especially after his contract at Inter Milan was terminated by mutual consent.

Then Premier League outfit Brentford stepped in and handed him the opportunity to make a comeback, which he grabbed with both hands.

In the second half of the 2021/22 season, Eriksen was exceptional for the Bees and key to them avoiding relegation.

According to The Mirror, Manchester United are now interested in signing the 30-year-old on a free transfer.

A move to Old Trafford this summer would be quite something and he would certainly elevate the quality levels at United.

Eriksen is a magnificent playmaker who is capable of controlling the tempo of games and chips in with important goals.

He’s also effective from set-pieces, although there was one time when he was outdone from a free-kick situation by a pitch invader – which is a Premier League moment that will always be funny.

In 2014, Eriksen lined up a free-kick for Tottenham Hotspur in a match away at West Ham United, only to be interrupted by a supporter charging across the pitch.

The fan in question was able to make contact with the ball before they were stopped by security and to be fair, their left-footed effort on goal wasn’t actually too bad.
