Chris Wood underwhelmed v Leicester
Chris Wood was underwhelming in Newcastle United’s 2-1 win over Leicester City, resulting in him being hooked in the second half by Eddie Howe. The 30-year-old failed to register a shot on target, create a chance or win back possession.
Wood was dominant in the air and typically had the joint-highest duels won, but he wasn’t as effective with his feet. Howe had little choice but to make a change in the second half as the New Zealand international didn’t see a lot of the ball and was wasteful when he did get it.
Against Leicester, Wood played for 68 minutes, had 17 touches, won five aerial duels, completed 38.5% of his 13 passes, had one shot which didn’t hit the target, failed to whip in a cross, failed to make a tackle and failed to make an interception.
The 30-year-old has made 13 Premier League appearances for Newcastle, scoring two goals. Wood has been a useful signing for the Magpies, but he doesn’t always hit the mark in games. Wood has never been a prolific striker and is far more threatening in the air than he is with his feet.
