Chris Sutton asks the Celtic question no one else is daring to as he fears things risk getting 'ugly' for Rodgers

Chris Sutton wonders if things are already starting to get a little bit "ugly" for Brendan Rodgers so soon after his dramatic return to Scottish football.

It hasn't been the start to his second spell at Celtic the Irishman had envisioned as after successive wins to start the season, their hopes of another Treble were ended at the first hurdle by Kilmarnock before a 0-0 stalemate with St Johnstone was met with boos from pockets of the home support. The Parkhead club face rivals Rangers at Ibrox this weekend and Sutton reckons Rodgers may already be in need of a big result.

Record Sport columnist Sutton was initially doubtful Rodgers would return to the club after Ange Postecoglou walked out for Tottenham. He admits he got that one wrong but fears it's already starting to look a little bit "ugly" for the boss this early in his second stint.

He said on BBC Radio 5 Live: "It's massive. I remember when you put it to me about Brendan Rodgers returning and I said 'absolutely no chance.' Anyway, he's gone back there and it's getting a little bit...dare I say 'ugly?'

"Just because of Celtic's iffy start to the season. They're top of the league but I'm just telling you there are Celtic supporters who probably were quiet because he was the best candidate to take the job.

"But with the way he left before, it could turn ugly pretty quickly especially if they get walloped at Ibrox. They haven't done anywhere near enough work in the transfer market in terms of signings."
