Chris Brunt offers his thoughts on Sheffield Wednesday vs Sunderland and Paolo Di Canio

Former Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Chris Brunt hopes his old club can win promotion back to the Championship this season. The Owls will try to overturn a one-goal deficit when they host Sunderland in the second leg of their play-off semi-final tomorrow night.

There will be a sold-out crowd in excess of 33,000 at Hillsborough as Wednesday seek to reach Wembley. The winners of the tie will face either Milton Keynes Dons or Wycombe Wanderers in the final.

When asked if the Owls can get past the Black Cats, Brunt said: "I don't see why not. They have got a great home record this year so hopefully they can get over the line. One nil away from home in the play-offs is not the end of the world so hopefully they can get over the line on Monday."

Wednesday secured their spot in the end-of-season jamboree after finishing fourth in the regular league season. Despite a strong second half of the campaign, the Owls ended up five points adrift of Rotherham United in the second automatic promotion spot.
