Chelsea will 'immediately' replace £50m star at Stamford Bridge

Chelsea would look to “immediately” replace Jorginho if he leaves Stamford Bridge this summer, claims transfer insider Dean Jones.

With less than a year remaining on his contract, the 30-year-old’s future in west London is far from guaranteed.

At the end of May, 90min reported that Chelsea were open to letting Jorginho return to Italy this transfer window.

The midfielder, who arrived at the Blues from Napoli in a £50m deal four years ago, is thought to be attracting interest from Serie A.

However, his agent recently made it clear that staying at Stamford Bridge is the player’s priority and talks over a contract renewal could be held in the near future.

Speaking to TUTTOmercatoWEB (via 90min), Joao Santos said: “Chelsea are the priority. His contract will expire in 2023. I think we will talk about the renewal from September.”

If a bid arrives for Jorginho and he does leave, which Jones thinks is possible, the journalist expects Chelsea to move for a replacement.

He said to GIVEMESPORT: “Obviously, there still might be a bid that comes in for Jorginho. If that comes in, they’ll definitely entertain an offer for him and they would want to look to replace him immediately.

“Once the centre-back and wing-back situations are sorted out at Chelsea – they do want a forward too – the midfield is an area that they want to address.”

Given his contract situation, it would not be hard to understand the Blues’ thinking behind a sale.

However, with Antonio Rudiger recently leaving the club and captain Cesar Azpilicueta possibly set to follow, letting Jorginho go now may not be the wisest idea. Simply put, Chelsea do not look to be in a position where they can afford to lose any more experience and leadership.
