Chelsea: £150k-a-week star will ‘embrace’ Graham Potter at Stamford Bridge

Chelsea forward Christian Pulisic will be ‘embracing’ the arrival of new manager Graham Potter more than most, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The 23-year-old struggled for regular game time under previous boss Thomas Tuchel and could see his departure as an opportunity to have a fresh start at Stamford Bridge.

Pulisic was reportedly one of several Chelsea attackers eager to seek pastures new over the summer after becoming frustrated with their role within the squad.

However, after Romelu Lukaku, Timo Werner and Callum Hudson-Odoi were allowed to move on, the USA international was not granted his wish and stayed put.

That was despite The Athletic’s Andy Mitten revealing Manchester United were interested in snapping Pulisic up on loan as they looked to bolster their options on the flanks.

It was also claimed that Newcastle United, Juventus and Atletico Madrid made approaches for the skilful star, who is eager to play more minutes ahead of the upcoming World Cup in Qatar.

Yet Pulisic still has two years remaining on his £150,000-per-week contract and could see Potter’s arrival in west London as the perfect opportunity to revive his Chelsea career.

Jones has informed GiveMeSport that he believes Tuchel’s sacking could turn out to be a ‘better thing’ in terms of Pulisic’s career rather than him moving to a new club.

He said: “I can see Pulisic, in particular, embrace this. He wanted a change of team in the summer, and a change of manager at Chelsea is the next best thing.

“And actually, it might even be a better thing because there’s less upheaval for him. He hasn’t got to move anywhere; it means that he stays part of this team and gets to actually prove himself in this team.”
