Chelsea have 'definite interest' in £130k-a-week star at Stamford Bridge

Chelsea have a ‘historical interest’ in Crystal Palace star Wilfried Zaha and key figures at Stamford Bridge have looked to tie up a deal on numerous occasions, according to journalist Simon Phillips.

The Blues entered a new era in May, when Todd Boehly led a £4.25billion takeover, and Zaha has been linked with a switch to west London.

According to 90min, Chelsea are considering making a move for Zaha ahead of the September 1 transfer deadline.

The report suggests the winger would like the chance to play Champions League football, which the Blues can offer having finished third in the Premier League last season.

It is understood that Zaha could be available for as little as £25million due to ongoing uncertainty over his long-term future at Palace.

The 29-year-old has entered the final 12 months of his £130,000-per-week contract at Selhurst Park, meaning his current employers are running the risk of seeing him walk away as a free agent next summer.

However, Chelsea are not Zaha’s only suitors as Italian giants Roma have reportedly made a proposal since the summer window opened for business.

Phillips understands that Chelsea are long-term suitors of Zaha and they are mulling over whether to make a move.

The journalist is aware that the west Londoners have previously looked to do business with Palace.

Phillips told GIVEMESPORT: “There is definite interest from Chelsea. It’s historical interest, but it’s also come up again in this window.

“I think there’s people at Chelsea that have admired Zaha for a while and have attempted to sign him a couple of times.”
